This feasibility Study was conducted by RAC/REMPEITC-Caribe for the possible development of a regional reception facilities plan for the small island developing States (SIDS) of the Wider Caribbean Region. The study includes an assessment of and site visits to the ports of 16 U.N. member SIDS, and identification of possible measures to address the inadequacy of port reception facilities in the Wider Caribbean Region. The outcomes of this report complements other strategies for improving management of ship generated wastes and cargo residues within the Wider Caribbean Region, and contributes to efforts towards improving the ability of Caribbean States to effectively fulfill their obligations under MARPOL, or to accede to MARPOL where a State is not already a Party.
